- grew up playing the violin, dancing ballet, loving science, and wanting to help people

- is grateful for the love and support of her husband and children
Education & Qualifications
After receiving her bachelor's degree from Cornell University, she earned her doctorate of medicine (MD) from Howard University and a master's degree in public health (MPH) from George Washington University. She'd developed an interest in genitourinary (GU) health during medical school which lead her to conduct research with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Mount Sinai Department of Urology prior to completing a year long internship in Urologic Surgery in Boston. Dr. Purnell then returned to the Mid-Atlantic area to complete residency in Family and Community Medicine in Baltimore. That is where she realized her passion for reproductive justice, which coupled with her interest in GU health, encouraged her to pursue a career in Reproductive Health and Family Planning.
Due to rising concerns about access to and knowledge about reproductive health, particularly contraception, Dr. Purnell 1) completed the Reproductive Health and Family Planning Tract of her residency program, 2) completed a vasectomy certificate program to refine her surgical skills, and 3) opened this medical practice with hopes of filling the gaps in 2021!

Formal Vasectomy & Reversal training
Dr. Purnell completed the no scalpel, no needle vasectomy certification course and trained in vasectomy reversal with national vasectomy leader and urologist, Dr. Douglas Stein at the Vasectomy and Reversal Center of Florida.
